he made me laugh

A whole slew of people were waiting to hear from me after the JEC meeting last month. Including a neurologist/activist who has been instrumental in opening up a new option for IS parents here in the States. Synacthen - the synthetic form of ACTH which is used throughout Europe & Canada. There is controversy in that the side affects may be greater...and it may need to be administered in higher doses. But at around $600 per vial...it's much more affordable than it's natural rival Acthar gel...which can cost up to $40,000 per vial.

Anyway he & I've emailed a bit...and I knew he'd be among the interested. So I whipped out a short email with a link to the Brass & Ivory post. Which by the way...I was terribly happy she'd blogged...since I, myself, was in an exhausted stupor.

He responded me this...

Fantastic! Hope you gave them hell!

Followed shortly by this...

Now that I read the article, I find out you're in the ministry. Sorry.... should have told you to give them heck.

I love your blog. I have no idea who you are, but I think of you often and hope that Trevor is doing well.

I'm not sure where I fit in in the IS community. Most of the time I don't feel like I fit in at all. But your posts make me smile. Thanks!

Andi...thank you SO much! Your comment made me smile! I know we've never met...and even though our IS lives are not the same...for me it's a connection. Sooooo...you fit right here with me!

Danielle,

How interesting to read the comment left by Andi, because I logged in to tell you how much I love your blog as well! You know I've been a fan for a while, but I just thought it appropriate to tell you that i think your intro describes it perfectly. When I talk to you...when I read your stories....I feel heart connect. It's such a blessing in this scary world that we live in as IS mommys. Thanks for that.

Love Karen

Well, you know we love your blog too. Yup, I'm a stalker, big time!

That's too funny. We'll after all god is not with out a sense of humor (nor, are you). He must get a great laugh out of watching me have my daily meltdown ;)

Did you ever reply to that email you forwarded me from our mutual friend in CA? *wink*

I'm so glad that you are able to influence (even if indirectly) more choices for patients and parents. Honestly, I don't know details of the drugs, but I do know that steroids in general really SUCK!!

There are side-effects and it's all very serious stuff. I trust that you guys are doing well and I really did enjoy meeting you briefly that day at the JEC.

Take care,
Lisa

P.S. Now I kinda am curious to read that entire email. The brief clip I saw was funny enough, but....

Lisa...I've already told you but feel inclined to mention again...I stand in awe of your mind! It was a joy to meet you & your mom...who I thought was just adorable there supporting you! I suppose the goal is to just to continue doing what we can to influence change...

No, I don’t know him personally

I’ve had several emails today asking if I know Mike W. of Marissa’s Bunny personally.    Trevy’s blog was linked on her site.  Although it’s not now.     I’ve posted here and there at his request.  Because…well…we’re a community.  Us IS families.  And Marissa is wicked cute.  Her daddy has a way with words.  Also who wouldn’t want the world to know about an iPad give-away?    But aside from that…I know about as much as you do.    We’ve never met in person.    Our only communication has been cyber.    I’m a ginormous sap and as such would love to believe that all is right.  That the sweet, beautiful families who were promised iPads will be getting them tonight.  Tomorrow at the latest.  That no one has been lied to.  That the personal thank you for your generosity email I sent him on behalf of other IS families I’ve grown to love and was thrilled to learn w...

the great answer hunt in the land of Infantile Spasms

If I've said it once... I've thought it a million times more. How it's like the more I research...and discover...about IS. The more blurry everything becomes. For every answer found. A dozen questions are unearthed. Remember our whole ARX saga ? Yeah...that threw me for a loop. So much so...that I never went on to post the end of the story. Thus far... See...the unbelievable in the world of genes happened. Because this is IS-ville after all. After Dr. Genes sampled Trevy's ARX gene on a whim...a whim which revealed an unkown (meaning the first time this specific change was found) mild mutation...she proceeded to send Toby's blood off to mad scientist central. With assurances that this was totally unnecessary . She was convinced that Trevor's ARX mutation was the underlying cause of his Infantile Spasms. And that Typical Toby...would prove to be just that. Typical...at least in all areas mutate-able. And yet...Toby's ARX blood sample revealed THE SAME MIL...

I sure hope...

they grow back curly! Saw the "unknown" flashing on the face of my cell phone and knew who it was. Who it had to be. Dr. Fellow. My eyes met Grams' and I nodded. Grams has a pool, see. For super hot days like today. We're also having a septic installed. Which meant no water or facilities at my place. But those weren't really the reasons I was there. Close to mom. The purple ringing thing in my hand was. Only I wasn't prepared for it to be ringing SO darn soon. Shortly after lunch instead of dinner! I swallowed. Took a deep breath. And clicked connect. Dr. Fellow has a very nice phone tone. Clear. Hint of compassion. If only a stitch of humor were added...it'd be heavenly. But there was no humor. Just business. He's very direct. I'm learning that about him. Which explains his short hello. Followed by immediately pushing into the news. Being that it was a unanimous consensus. The entire surgical committee feels Trevor is a good candidate. And then p...
