not too sick to smile...

We have truly been humbled & moved by the out-pouring of support & compassion we've received from our sponsors since Trevor's diagnosis. Case n' point...this email we found in today's inbox... Danielle & family, Our Discovery Club kids were doing a missions project this year, and chose your family. Even though you are not returning to Tanzania, we still want to send a care package to you and your kiddos, but want to be sure we send it to the right address. Thanks so much for letting our kiddos be a blessing to you and yours. We’re praying for you. There aren't really words... ...but this *strepie* is sniffley & smiling!

so close I can taste it...

Soooo ... Friday ...we knew who it was by the country code on the phone face. J's dad. He's loading our container for us. It was supposed to arrive that day...but was delayed until Monday. No shocker. That's Tanzania. Saturday ...I obsessed ALL day about my stuff! Sunday ...more of the same. Monday ...country code indicator again. My heart always sinks...it's like I'm just waiting for the hammer to drop. Honestly, at this point we're open to greasing the wheel a bit. Not bribery, mind you. A tip! Today ...another call. It's getting expensive. Evidently they needed a copy of J's passport. Scanned & emailed & received ! Things are moving forward! And...if I squeeze my eyes real tight...I can almost feel my comfy bed! Which I'm hoping will cure my insomnia!

peanuts and cracker jacks

He gets it from his father. --- This passion (bordering on obsession) for baseball. --- Gearing up for Toby's first real Opening Day had me walking down memory lane... --- ...the boy loves the game SO much that he spent the first few months in TZ attempting to teach the neighborhood kiddos the American past-time. It was super cute watching Toby's little tow head bobbing in a sea of black curls. --- Giving in to the nostalgia...I dug these pix out of my archives. Sadly...most of the really good ones are on our big computer. In Tanzania. --- And I know you'll be bummed...but...there're none of me in African garb. --- But I like this one (above). That's (the non tow headed little guy) Toby's best friend ever - Kevin. --- Toby & Kevy were trying to teach the big boys proper batting stance! --- --- We used to live there! That was our home! *sigh* I miss that house! And then I remember the power cuts... and it doesn't hurt quite SO bad! *wink* --- --- I...

shagala bagala

I LOVE Swahili...and that is my all time fave phrase. Loosely translated it means "craziness or chaos"! And that sums up my life today... First of all...if we had taken two steps forward in the sleep depot - last night was like two months back! And it showed - grumpy grumpy grumpy - all day long! And I think you & your sister were collaborating! Including at music class! Didn't help that it was gloomy either. I am SO over gloomy! Seriously...Spring where are you!?!?!?! Then Bristel and her mystery rash! Dr. Pedi was loathe to rule out chicken pox...but now on day 5 and no crusty scabs (but still new spots popping up) we're convinced we've esacaped that calamity. Still no clue what exactly the rash is though. Grams who was appalled at the thought that it could be flea bites...has now taken up the task of fumigating the kid's room! And the Cinderella gown that your sister lives in... Toby has a rash too. My word...I thought I left that stuff on the oth...

I'm not missing you

Some days I miss being there, you know. Speaking Swahili with Bibi Mary wearing flour on our faces instead of makeup ( cause it's just too darn hot & homemade tortillas are messy ). Going over Kevin's homework in the back yard while Bristel splashes in the wading pool that we were lucky enough to find - amazed at his ability to memorize English. Driving through the lush volcano dimpled Korogwe - one of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion. Yes...some days I miss Tanzania. Today is NOT one of those days! Today we got a phone call that crossed seven time zones before it rang on our cell. And the news wasn't great. Now...we've gotten a few of those not-so-hot calls in our time in the States so far. Guard dog poisoned - to death. Guards arrested for theft & drug possession. Among others - less stressful. But somehow the one today really really got under my skin. Today we were informed that approximately $2700 ( insured value - I'm SO glad your Dadd...
