I (occasionally) *heart* Speech Delay Like when Trevy calls his high tops high heels .   *****   Bristel and I had some alone time in the car after dropping Tobin off at his engineering class. The conversation inevitably went to romance. Because clearly that's what 8 year old girls think about.   Bristel randomly broke the silence with a sigh: Sometimes I think I may never find a husband. Me: Well, honey, it's better to wait for the right guy rather than settle for the wrong one. Bristel: That's a good point. (pause and then giggle) Daddy looked so silly in those circle glasses he used to wear! Did you think he looked silly even though you married him? Me: They were pretty silly! Buuuuuuut...your dad made me laugh. So that balanced that out. Bristel: I have really high expectations, I think. Me after choking on the fact that she's EIGHT: Well, what are your top five expectations? Bristel: He has to love Trevor. He has to love God. He has to love me. And...

Trevy to Uncle Byron : Dih-Doh (Bristel) hit me   Uncle Byron : Bristel hit you?   Trevy : YEEEEEESH!   Bristel : Oh Trevor, stop taking all the credit! You hit me too!     **********   I really should stop ignoring them so much.  On the way home from the wading pool Trevy was hollering in the back seat and I tuning him out.     According to Bristel he was hollering…     I nakey!     And sure enough, that’s how I found him.  He was already shirtless but somehow stripped off his bottoms with his seatbelt on and was beaming in all his birthday suit glory when we finally stopped.     **********     Toby finds me in the kitchen and says with a sigh…     I’m glad I found you, Mom.  I need to talk to you.     Around a mouthful I ask ‘bout what.     Life     He says.  With another melancholic sigh....

Randomnings–my top ten mommy smile moments this week

Bristel : Mommy, when you get married do you spend all day and night kissing?   Me : Something like that, honey   Bristel : And then kids come along and ruin it?     **********   I was in the kitchen making "chicken nuggets"...     otherwise known as Trevy's crack     when he comes charging the kitchen gate shouting,     I homeworking! I homeworking!     I gotta admit I was afraid to see what exactly "I homeworking" could mean but I followed him anyway. He led me to the schoolroom  where a giant coloring book and crayons (which are supposed to be out of reach!) was open to a search and find and he's tracing (read: scribbling over) the letters!     I call that "homeworking" too!     **********   In order to find the humor, I need to set the stage a little. Bristel and a friend have started a "Care Club" the purpose of which is to do acts of kindness and teach li...

Trevy comes from his bath wrapped in a towel.   Pauses in the middle of the living room. Looks around. And with no warning throws the towel off and stands there in his "Roman Glory" with his fists in the air shouting...   Pow-ah Wange-ahs!   Trevy Speak for Power Rangers. :P     ***********   Trevy still has a crooked smile from his surgery. He probably always will. It's adorable and him. So he smiles at Toby who says to me...   His smile may be broken...   but his love for us isn't.   And his smile is one of the most special things about him.   Um. Yeah. I cried.     **********   I’d just washed Trevy’s hair and Toby offers to be his “hair stylist”.  In true big brother form he starts mussing up Trevy’s un-curls.   No no no no   Trevy protested   I PEACOCK!   We’re pretty sure he meant to say he wanted a MOHAWK since he was squeezing his hair down the middle of...

shopping for the kids + saving money + supporting a friend = happy mommy

I’m super excited about a new children’s consignment store that’s opening in our community!     I love that it’s practically within walking distance.     And I double love that I’m friends with the owners and think they’re some of the sweetest people I know!     If you’re a local yokel be sure to check out Tiverton Tots …     …danielle

seven snippets–the one where I’m SLIGHTLY less cranky :)

1…     Now that Trevor is using more than one or two words in a row I’m noticing that he tends to put some sentences backwards.     For instance…     When he sees a Subway logo (the kid is a marketer’s dream!) he always always says…     Eat Fresh…Subway.     Even though we sing it back to him the other way?      Or like this morning when he almost fell into the tub while trying to pull his pants up.  He hollered to his dad…     Daddy…in tub…I fall.     Why does he do that?     2…     We’ve had a lot (and by “a lot” I really mean A LOT ) of this lately…         We’re in a VERY cheeky screaming NO at everything phase.      The good news is…could he really look any more adorable than when he’s nose to corner?     3…     One of the skills we’re working on in the Trampol...

my 1st Grader’s too many cups left in too many places fix

If your kids drive you bonkers with using a bazillion cups and leaving them in a bazillion places during the day…     then my daughter’s idea may help you out too!       We were having issues with not just several cups being used…     but where they were being left too!     Trevy’s super cute.  But if he dumps a glass of water on the computer keyboard it will still fry it!  He has a dumping obsession.      So just labeling cups has been a fail for us.        A fail which I mutter about often!  My daughter was eavesdropping my mommy griping (under my breath) the other day…     And she came up with the perfect solution for our family!     Everyone has their own (we sharpie-d initials) coaster!  Which will live in the kitchen.  On a particular countertop.  Far far away from the gate which keeps the monster out.  Seeing t...

Bristel holding a pair of Toby’s boxers in hand on our last laundry day with a disgusted look on her face says:     Whose X -boxers are these?     She didn’t know what she said wrong which just made Tobes and I laugh all the harder!     **********   Took the kids on a field trip last week to see The Spindle City Ballet’s Nutcracker.  Bristel and I were over the moon.  A perk of homeschooling is getting to pick the field trips!  I’d never been to a ballet before!  On the way home I asked the kids what their favorite part of the performance was. Toby without hesitation responded:     THE END!     *****   Another perk of homeschooling…     She can dress like a ballerina to the ballet if she wants to.      **********     While we were sitting in the que (they herded put all the homeschoolers together ) waiting to be seated for the Nutcracke...

Bristel wanted to make “daddy’s dream’s come true”   by making her bed and getting dressed first thing in the morning.    Without being asked!   **********   Toby described Trevy’s shyness at Special “Pim-picks” (Olympics) as   People Fright     **********     Our new family motto:   It’s all fun and games until Trevy sits on your head     ***********     Trevy and Bristel have been getting very physical in their arguments.  It’s not uncommon for me to walk in on them slapping faces or pulling hair.  Which explains why the following holler from Toby didn’t phase me…not one bit:     Mooooooooooom…   Bristel’s kicking Trevy in restricted areas!      ***********     Speaking of Toby.  You know you’re a Seizure Mommy when your 5th grader not only includes but correctly spells the word…     Hemispher...

I served nachos and salsa for lunch.  Bristel, feeling adventurous, tasted the salsa and declared…   Yummy!   but…   it almost spiced me!    **********   Trevy running outta Miss. May May’s car.  Arms extended.  Holding a construction paper card.  And hollering…   Day!  Day!    Trevy Speak:  Happy Mother’s Day!   *********   Bristel:  When I’m a teenager and you teach me how to drive perfectly and I know how to drive perfectly do you know what I’m going to drive to?   :: pause for breath ::   I’m going to drive to CVS and buy a pack of gum!   **********   Trevy’s (melt your mommy why don’t you!) Not too long ago we were warming the stands at a basketball game starring Tobes.  It happened that Jonathan was sitting on the bleacher above me.  Giving him full access to notice all things on my head. It was with glee.  Glee, I say.  That he practically shouted announced spotting my first... gray !  Long after his duly earned bruises healed my daughter will still solemnly and sadly rub my back and offer me this condolence... I sure wish you didn't get your first gray hair, mommy.  ******************** Dr. Pedi informed Toby that she needed to swab some boogers from his nose for a flu test. I can just pick em' for you He generously offered. ******************* Bristel and Toby were having a Fighting Frenzy sorta day and I'd finally had enough. If you two don't stop it right this minute... it's not gonna be pretty!  I promise you!  Both got real quiet.  Until Bristel finally responded... Well, mooooom....

what I'm loving today - randomnings

Toby regarding a thought provoking school assignment -- I just can't get this, Mom. My brain is too discombobulated!  ********** Trevy:  paaaaaaaaaaaaaay - tandem-ed with the sign for play...therefore we understood he was saying "play" not "pay".   Me:  you're going to play at school, honey  Trevy:  oh - with such a hilariously disappointed tone that I swear he knew exactly what was being said! ********** I was apologizing to Bristel because my pony tail was a wee bit sloppy.  Allowing her long side parted bangs to fall into her eyes a little bit.  Don't worry, Mommy.  When my hair falls down like that, my name is Cris!  Says she while trying out a super model pose. ********** Me:  Ready to brush teeth, Trevy?  Trevy's response was to pause... bat his huge eyes... and blow a raspberry before proceeding to finish his run down the hall way.  ********** I tried a new recipe out the ...

Oh maaaaan... I wanted to be the hero!  Toby complained when I told him to put his offered quarter back in his pocket as I'd successfully dug the nine cents needed outta the bottom of my purse. *********** I find myself wondering just how much the big kids picking on Trevy used to go unnoticed.  By pick on I mean...pirate away his iPad or stuffing him into tutus while mommy is playing the How Much Can You Vacuum in 5 Minutes or Less game.  Because that's how long I feel safe not hearing or seeing what Trevy is up to at a time. You know.  Stuff like that.  He used to be completely non-verbal and helpless to their sneaking big kid ways.  He's now what I like to call non-verbal- ish .   Lately he's been running to me whining "maaaaaamaaaaaa" while frantically patting me and clearly tattle taling. It is not uncommon to hear me remind the big kids, You do understand he knows how to tell on you now, right? **********  Callie is a lap...

looks who's talking

Just a few random Trevor miracle moments for your Sunday evening enjoyment...  He's recently taken to a super adorable and dramatically extended " mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm " while feeding himself pudding " duh en " (the end) when closing a book  A very clear " I kick " when told NOT to kick during church " I poop "  and indeed he had.  Not in or anywhere near the potty, mind you.  But saying so is a step in the right direction.   " ch...ch....ch... " processing and remove the binkie pause " chhhhhhuuuuhch " (church) right smack in the middle of a Chris Tomlin worship song.  Perfectly articulated " dad " And when said dad took too long to respond... " DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD !"  Trevy's out-patient Speech Therapist has been giving us homework.  She maintains that while her once weekly hour long sessions with him are important...working at home is equally so.  A specific project is ...

Does it sound indulgent if I cop to thinking Bristel is the cutest little girl ever? Especially when she's swallowed up by my pink knitted winter hat.  So she has something to remind her of me while she's at school.  Which was her explanation for stealing it.  ******************** All on his own Toby noticed how hard I was working out and brought me a refreshing glass of water .  His words. ********************* Do you know what you're doing?! Bristel asks (in a highly suspicious tone) while observing me make dinner the other day. ******************** My nostrils are assaulted with the unmistakeably tangy scent of pickles upon entering the kitchen. There stands Tobin.  Fist full of green.  Dripping juice on the floor.  And he's grinning from ear to ear. What?  I like pickles. His answer to my unspoken question. ********************* It's anybody's guess why, but Trevy hates when I keep my hand in the water flow duri...
