for the siblings…

How awesome is this…     Dictionary of Medical Words – for Kids     love it!?     Such a great tool when you’re explaining tricky medial terms as a family.  And as Trevy matures and learns more…I totally see this coming in handy for him too!     …danielle

and my nose?

Trevy is fascinated by his MRI. I have a laminated picture in my wallet because I like to randomly remind myself of his journey.  It’s great for those moments I positively want to throttle him!   He saw it earlier while I was rifling through my wallet at the market. So I told him about his big scar. And how the doctors had to remove the yucky, broken tissue. I told him that he's a miracle. I was waxing quite eloquent, I think. He was listening intently and then said,   And my nose?   Sure enough, if you look at his brain the right way...it looks like a face with a nose!     …danielle

practical PECS: how we’re using pictures to take baby steps towards dressing independence

He’s almost six, you know.          He’s lost his first two teeth.     Can read a handful of sight words.     Has mad Kung Fu Fighting Just Dance Kids moves.     And I think just maybe he’s in a place now that he is able to do some self care stuff with less hands on help.  In fact, I’ve been letting him help make chicken nuggets or clean around the house or pack his own snack.  Which will include a full sleeve of Ritz crackers, of course.  Word on School Street is the teachers love when Trevy packs his snack because he has plenty to share!           He loves feeling like a big kid.   Which is so typical, right?!  It always makes me smile at how our special kiddos can be so typical too!  The biggest challenge with Trevy and helping with anything – is the incessant redirection he needs!  He does very, very little without adult (...

dancing counts as PT (and PE if you happen to homeschool :)

Check out Trevy’s (and Toby’s) mad dance and booty shake moves!     Made you smile didn’t he?     …danielle     ps.  Bet you can’t guess why his jammies are backwards!

my new fave Seizure Nurse

I just made a Seizure Nurse belly laugh on the phone.       We were running through Trevor's lengthy lists of meds. Once we got through the pharms she asked about OTC meds.     I told her he takes an Omega chew daily and when I remember AND he's non-combative he gets a Children's multi chewable. But most days it's easier to give him that V-8 fruit/veggie blend and call it a day .     She thought that was HI-larious!     Which can only mean one thing...she's my newest favorite nurse.  Because it does my heart good to know I still make people laugh.  I thought I’d lost my mojo here lately!      …danielle

just in case you were wondering…YES, we STILL LOVE our Nickel Bed Tent!

I can think of just two things (okay, maybe three if you include a trip to see Mickey Mouse) that we’ve purchased for Trevy over the years in which our love for said thing has grown rather than diminished over time.     His iPad.  We are addicts now!     And his Nickel Bed Tent !       When Trevy learned how to climb out of his bed over the summer…chaos and sleepless nights ensued!     The Nickel Bed Tent swept in like a multi-colored super hero to bring peace and sweet, sweet SLEEP back to our home.  Six months later…we’re still big fans!     We haven’t bought a bed frame yet.  But Trevy doesn’t seem to mind.  His mattress is actually a super thick tempurpedic topper.  I lay in there with him to read books or play with his iPad.  It must be comfy because he’s usually shouting at me to “wake up”!     We started out using the book rings to clip the zipper ...
