sweet therapy

Okay...so I know I've been a bit of a downer recently.

Comes with the territory. You know...

...Life. Being a girl.

::smile::

I'll admit it...I've been a big baby lately. Vulnerable. More susceptible to the gloomies. Like...when asked on three separate occasions how old Trevor is. And watching all three different sets of eyes show surprise. Not the good kind either. Rather the kind that reflect pride...on just how much their little one is accomplishing. And at three months younger! Ugh! I'm afraid I used to wear those eyes too...so I don't judge too harshly. I just go cry in the car.

::laugh::

But actually...we've had some wonderful successes recently. After months of zero forward movement...in specific areas...Trevy seems to be creeping into new territory.

He had a wonderful Speech Session this week.

Typically it goes down like this...Ms. Speech hands Trevy a toy. Trevy takes the toy...with his left hand. Always the left! Trevy spits out binky & chews on the toy. We re-insert binky - the germ protector. Trevy launches the toy across the room. And wanders off.

But yesterday it went more like this...

Ms. Speech shows Trevy a toy...one of those push the levers & watch thing-a-ma-bobs pop out of hiding toys. Trevy liked the hide n' seek gadget. He spent a good five minutes exploring the levers and pushing the little trap doors back down. I know it sounds so small...but this is HUGE. That he stayed focused for five minutes! HUGE! Not even Blue's Clues or Elmo get the five minute connection! We were all thrilled.

Ms. Speech later moved on to his favorite. Bubbles. He's all about the bubbles! It really looked like he was trying to blow them himself. Again...HUGE. Did you know that imitation is not just the sincerest form of flattery...it's also a precursor to language? And then when Ms. Speech went to put the bubbles away he did the most amazing thing...

...he signed *more*! It was a little lop-sided. And the form wasn't very pretty. And no one outside of that room would have known what it meant. But he did it!

And that is HUGE!

I'm just praying...and hoping...and cheering...that the forward creeping continues!

Yeah Trevy!!!!

Remember...babysteps Danielle...soon he's gonna be taking off with running and his speaking and you are gonna wish for the silent & still days sometimes!!! My oldest didn't start talking until she was 4 so we got her speech therapy...now sometimes I wonder why we bothered...she never shuts up now!!! lol

Great job Trev! I second that. Javi didn't start really talking until he was 4 and Ethan not a whole lot until about seven months ago. Neither one of them ever shut up!

I know what you mean though. I try not to let the other mom's get to me, although it's hard sometimes I know. I have gone through it with two other kids, so it doesn't bother me as much as it did with Javi. I just wanted Javi to do everything that the other kids did, but it wasn't in the cards for us, with any of our kids.

Hang in there. I know it's hard. I feel ya girl :)

What wonderful accomplishments.

To help with sign, have you looked into the Signing Times videos? They aren't cheap but they are really cute and everything is signed and spoken. They are sometimes shown on the PBS channels.

Sharon - thanks sweetie...for recognizing mommy too!

Adesta - the big kids have been ecessively obnoxious lately...and J commented on how nice it was that Trevy doesn't add to the chaos! lol

Shanna - Hey...I was worried you got swallowed by the quake! *wink* The more time has passed...the more obvious Trev's deficits are. I swore that I wouldn't let it bother me...ugh...I hate that I let it. *sigh* Guess it's okay if I'm human! lol But I'm more convinced than ever that I need the support I have from mommies like you! (((hugs)))

Jen - I'm ordering some today! Right now in fact! If I can get J to watch Trevy that is...
