operation big boy bed: the homemade re-mix

A couple months ago I posted about trying to move Trevy outta the crib into his big boy bed.

It was a great thought.

We had the cute bed and everything.

But, yeah.  It took all of about two days to figure out that weren't gonna work.

I know...I know...your child is doing just fine in his/her big kid bed.

That's great.  Bravo.  I'm happy for you.  Really.

Now stop bragging!

::wink::

The fact is, it just wasn't working for Trevy.  He totally, completely, unequivocally rejected the bed.  I tried all sorts of mommy tricks to convince him it was the greatest thing ever.  He was having none of it.  And I'm believer in picking my battles.  Something that confines  keeps him  safe would help me win this one.

I convinced Jonathan that we needed to buy a Nickel Bed Tent.

But since they were back ordered for months...we had to figure something else out in the meantime.  It just so happens in Trevy's bedroom lives a little cove just about the size of a crib mattress.

All we needed was to cute it up a little.

Stick a handful of glow in the dark Toy Story characters on the wall.

Add a few favorite friends to snuggle up with.  Hi, Buzz.  Hi, Woody.  Hi, Blue Dinosaur that used to belong to Toby when he was an itty bitty baby.

Tuck in a few books to help pass the "waiting for mommy to come n' get me" time.

Secure a baby gate to both walls.

And wah-lah!

It's super adorable, right?

And the best news is...

Trevy loves it!  Right from the start too.  There was no transition drama with this one.  I'm not sure if it was the cute wall decor.  Or the buddies to snuggle.  Or the safe feeling being surrounded by taller than me things makes him feel.  But it's working.

Oh.  And it didn't take long for Trevy to figure out how to pick the cute wall decor off either.  At first I thought I was imagining things.  Like, that's weird, I thought Buzz was on that wall?  But nope.  It was Trevy playing designer.  Whatever works, right?!

You are soooo creative!!! Love the setup. Can you come over and finagle something up in Sophie's room so she stops climbing in bed with me every night?

Haha...Elaine...you're just a bigt marshmellow! We finally went to the "cry it out" method with Trevy...

I remember sitting outside his door bawling my eyes out. I think I slept there. And this was way back when he was trialing Vigabatrin...so that was a LONG time ago.

I think the Nickel Bed tent looks really promising.

That is brilliant!
Big kid beds are so scary for little ones. All that safety secure in being confined.
Ya know...it was our little one who picks and replaces the stick on characters too...in his brother's room though!
We did the cry it out method too...eventually...and it worked...and it broke my heart with both boys. I'm not sure who cried more? Me or them...well, THEY were louder about it!;)
Great job on the super cute, super functional room for your cutie! Love it!

Your "fix" looks great. You may not need the tent bed. ;)

We ordered Emma a nickel tent bed as well. But ours is for travel purposes. Currently she's sleeping in a pack-n-play, which she's quickly out growing and another baby is going to be in need of it come fall. We got an aerobed to go in it. I'm hoping that the air mattress fits well inside of it. Guess I'll see in June.

Margo...thanks, luv! And ain't it the truth...they cry louder...we cry longer! Trevy was night waking AT LEAST 5 times a night...and we were running on empty. Something had to give...and even though it was an awful few nights I am SO glad we did it. It's much easier to be a mommy when I'm getting rest!

Andi...Trevy got too big for his pack n' play too. Is the Nickel easy to travel with? And gosh...time is flying...June!
