imagine brain surgery without the scar…

I have a healthy interest in all things relating to intractable (med resistant) epilepsy and the (limited) treatment options available for those courageously battling persistent seizures.  It comes with the territory of loving someone in that community.

Which is why I ate up the article a fellow Seizure Mommy and friend forwarded to me the other day.  She knows me well!  Winking smile

The story is about a boy and his family’s journey to seizure freedom via a groundbreaking new lazar surgery.  As in…only 5 kids have ever been candidates to date!  Trevy’s brain malformation was much too extensive and the surgery Dr. Rockstar recommended was the best choice for us.

But for others…

If you have a healthy interest in brain surgery like I do…you’ve gotta click this link.  You can read the text.  But for what it’s worth, I found the video edition beautiful.  Squeezed the tears right up from my sappy spot.  And I’ve heard that crying is cleansing for the soul…

Wow, hey!
There's an early 20's girl from my hometown....teeny tiny rural AB.....who went to CA the week Bup had surgery....for her own lazer brain surgery. Her family was fundraising as of course it's super expensive and AB Health Care does not cover any of it. I haven't heard how she's making out yet.

Wow, this sounds amazing...we had decided against brain surgery for now. My son has gray matter heterotopia and we were told surgery likely wouldn't cure him. This sounds like something that might be worth the risk, though, if they consider heterotopia patients. Thanks for the link.

Lunamor...my son also has grey matter heterotopia. Although it wasn't visible until they removed the tissue...

How old is your guy?

D- is that anywhere close to Holli's hometown? I can't remember where she was taking Austin for his regular treatments. She hasn't updated her blog either, but I expect the two of you probably are more communicative. Has she given any indication that would be considered sharable as to how the visit in Detroit went?

Ken...she's been quiet since the trip. I've just been letting her hold everything in her heart until she's ready to share...

My son is 8 (turns 9 in a few months). He started having simple partial seizures just before he turned 5; we discovered the heterotopia this past February thanks to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. His is bilateral, and in both the frontal and parietal lobes. He has no developmental issues at all; just these darn seizures about every day.
