the perpetual dilemma of what to buy Trevy for Christmas?

It’s always a task to present shop for Trevy.  In fact, I pretty much dread it.  I want to balance therapeutic benefits with fun with not wasting money.  We have a knack for buying things that just don’t interest him.  And I have a knack for getting sappy when I spend too long looking at the age brackets.  It doesn’t help that right now he’s in a therapy funk.  Anything that even hints of educational or therapeutical annoys him.  You should see the battle of the Trevy Trays we’ve been having lately!  And really…can I blame him?  The kid has been in a variety of therapies since he was SEVEN months old!  He can smell a therapist from a mile away.  In love

But alas Christmas is coming.  And he’s starting to notice things.  In fact, his newest fave phrase is “I buy that!” while flipping through toy catalogs or the toys r us app which silly mommy downloaded or the ever marketing of young minds tv commercials.  Last year we might have gotten away with only re-gifting him a present or two.  This year?  No way Jose!

So anyway…I thought I’d share some of the gifts we’re thinking about or have already bought him.  You know.  Just in case you have a Trevy-ish kiddo to buy for this year and could use some ideas.   I’ve linked all the pictures to places I found them – and since I’m a cheap skate these are where I found the best prices too.  You’re welcome. Winking smile

I’ve been drooling over some of the the (you should investigate them for yourself and not let my opinion influence you otherwise) child tablets on the market these days.  Jonathan is totally anti the Leapfrog learning tablet or Vetch's innotab (our local TRUs has displays out to fiddle with).  He hates that the games are so expensive.  And typically these systems have a whole slew of cords and cases and paraphernalia to go along with them.  Which inevitably gets lost and needs to be replaced.  For a pretty penny.  We have two other kids who’ve educated us in this matter.   Besides, we LOVE our iPad.  Buuuut…I’m nervous about taking it with us when we go out and about.  I’d love to get Trevy something more mobile.  If we ever do…it’ll likely be an iPod touch.  Since that’s the only thing daddy’ll go for and we already have gobs of apps waiting in iTunes.

Learning to ride a tricycle has been one of Trevy’s IEP goals for the past two years.  He’s now up to pushing the pedals two times in a row.  Which is great but totally not enough for us to splurge on buying him one since I know chances are it’ll sit in the back yard getting rusty.

So instead…I have my eye on Bike 1

A battery powered Mickey Mouse scooter (ages 2-6) from Walmart.   Cutest thing ever, right?!  Can’t you just see him cruisin’ around on it.  Curls to the wind!  It’s friendly on the budget too!

And then we have Bike 2.

The Plasma Car is just too cool!  I think Trevy would love that there is no foot pedaling required.  Mommy loves that there is arm movement required which means that we can still sneak some therapy in.  Tobes and Bri would love that they can use it too!  There is no age limit for use of this and the weight limit is 250lbs.  Which means he’ll never outgrow it!

It’s a tradition for me to buy a puzzle of some kind each year.  I tried to convince Grams to buy it this year.  She laughed.  Cause she knows her grandson well enough to know that this would probably be his least fave gift.  It looks too much like work! Winking smile  She refuses to buy something he ain’t gonna love.  But I’ve had my eye on this Melissa and Doug Latch Board puzzle forever!  AC Moore usually has a 50% all M & D products around this time of year.

All of the sudden Trevy is totally into books.  If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is his current fave.  I’m a big fan of book apps and the library to prevent cluttering up the house.  But sometimes a book is worth buying.  I’m thinking this might be one of them!

I bought this Elmo set MONTHS ago when it was on super clearance at Target.  Any Play-Doh set would be fine…but having a fave character in the mix makes it that much better.

Binkies have been the stocking stuffer of choice for the past four years.  But since we’re trying to wean the bink…

It’s a toss up between this…

or this…

Because what Christmas is complete without unwrapping your fave snack foods?!

Toby is way into legos.  Trevy is way into anything that Toby is.  Duplos by Lego are the perfect solution.  I hope.  Cause we did buy him a Toy Story set the other day.  In love

Trevy has always been a lover of tunes.  Which makes sense when you understand that the right brain is the primary music digest-er.  Trevy would totally love a cd player of his own!  Complete with cds, of course.  Which (because we’re smart like that) would be copies of the master.  Smile

If you’re a blogger mommy or daddy and have shared your ideas too – leave a comment and I’ll link your post in here.  Because the more – the merrier!

Hope you all had a lovely relaxing Thanksgiving.  We did!

If you buy the Melissa and Doug Latch Board, be aware that your child may soon be able to open every similar type lock you have in your house!

Have you seen the Trio blocks? Rhett loves the idea of lego (Dora duplo really cause this kid loves Dora!) but he just can't manage them. However the Trio he can do!
Also...did you buy the Melissa & Doug latch puzzle? Cause if you didn't I would HAPPILY send you ours. Rhett just doesn't use it anymore and it's in perfect shape. Maybe I should send you all our safety locks too?! Like the ones that slide at the top of the door. :) lol
Bike....love them both. "We" ride the plasma everytime we go to Indigo...it does on its own!
what about a strider? Could he manage one? They teach balance so well.
I love that he is saying "I buy that." Trevy gets it! if it is the consumerism bug!;)
You've made a great, skill appropriate list my friend. It's hard, isn't it? That Santa will be sure to bring many smiles to your curly haired wonder on Christmas morn!

KC got the Plasma car a few years ago and LOVES it. He just started peddling his trycycle over the summer, but still loves not having to on the plasma. He goes super fast and just learned to spin to a stop! (yikes!)

M...well drat. Next year I'll have to post my list BEFORE I buy to allow friends to send me their goodies! We did already buy the latch board. And I bought duplos (cause we're Black Friday crazies) but now you have me wondering if should return them for the Trios. Although I haven't heard of them...can you link for me? So I can be lazy. ;)

Oh...and I should totally be offended 'bout lovin' the new banner. I didn't take one of those pictures...not one! lol

Karen...awwwww that's a very cute mental pic of KC poppin' wheelies you gave me :)

lol...Oh D! Those kiddos are too cute so who cares who took the pics. Look at B's dimples....I think you better make plans on how to keep the neighborhood boys away when she's 15!;)
Trio....don't return the duplo yet but maybe find a store where you can try out some Trio. Link up sister! See what you think.http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=900002&e=storeproduct&pid=55408&section=pop_trio

Have you looked into cases for the ipad? The ones from otterbox.com are pricey but well worth it. A friend demoed it for me by throwing his phone against our stove and then letting it bounce across the kitchen floor, which sold me on it. My boyfriend now throws his phone all the time just because he can.

M...they are awfully cute, huh? You'll have to help me come up with a master plan with Bristel! Although she's very sassy so she may be able to hold her own.

Anony...Oh my. No babysitting Trevy from you guys! He's so monkey see - monkey do...I can just see him chuckin' his Pad all around the room!

LOVE your new blog look!

Another reason we should be neighbors...I already have half of those things on your list that I would happily let you re-gift to your kiddos. Because, like you, I am totally anti-clutter and I need to make room for all the new Christmas presents. But all this talk about the Plasma car is getting me to rethink the one I have. I'll have to get it out and try again because I could never get that thing to go. Sophie now has a Razor RipRider 360.

I almost bought Sophie Duplos but bought her K'Nex because it was Sesame Street themed.

Oh and speaking of locks. Charlie knows how to lock and unlock (using a coin) the doors inside our house. And Sophie doesn't. I know I shouldn't laugh BUT when Charlie knows when Sophie is after him...he will run and lock himself in a room. And when I lock the bathroom door (besides he totally loves to play with the soap pump), he inevitably will find a coin, unlock the bathroom door, relock the bathroom door and make a huge mess!

Ugh! I am having such a hard time buying for Emma & Gwen. I could handle not really getting Emma anything, but Matthew expects Santa to get her something and we video tape opening gifts. So I would feel like a horrible parent if she didn't have anything to open. She usually ends up getting a lot of clothes. And then there's Gwen. We already have a ton of toys, thanks to 2 other kids. So I have no idea what to get for her. Wanna do my shopping for me? ;)

Julia still cannot peddle a tricycle but totally rocks the plasma car! I highly recommend it. The best toy she has ever received are Lego Duplos. She plays with them at least once a day.

Has everyone outgrown Winnie the Pooh? I haven't. And I still play with my three sets of Legos that I bought as an adult. I'm 55. CB
