if you give a kid an iPod… (a video clip marathon)

A handful of little video clips I found on the kids iPods…     How they entertained themselves on our schlep to Boston Childrens…     Ever wonder what Trevy's voice sounds like when he says "poooooop"?     Bristel teaching Trevy how to boogie before church     What Trevy says and does with the iPod when nobody’s looking!     I helped Bri (my budding crafty girl) make this little clip but Trevy was toooooo funny in the background not to share!     …danielle

neuro appointment review–the one where she noticed that he’s a tad distractable

Last Friday was our bi-annual schelp to Boston Children’s.     Dr. Neuro lives there.     And she’s kinda insistent we see her every now and then.     I’m such a big baby about it.  Seriously, though.  It’s a haul…and while I love Dr. Neuro and am thoroughly convinced she’s the right choice for us – it still stink stink stinks that we have to make that commute.  Even if it is only twice a year.      The thing I love most about Dr. Neuro (other than her involvement in helping us get Trevy’s surgery approved) is that she listens and trusts me.  If I tell her a little twitch is a seizure…she doesn’t second guess me.  And I’ve been second guessed by neuros before.  But she gives me the benefit (of having seen hundreds of thousands of seizures) of the doubt.      She did however look at me like I had two heads when I told her I’ve thought about just weaning him off of all ...

exploring the stars with Trevy too

Bristel: Mommy, can we go outside and look at the moon? It's aaaamazing tonight!   Me: Sure   Trevor: Trevor, go too???   Me: I go too and yes   Bristel: Trevor, who made the moon?   Trevor: Jesus   Me: Trevor, who made the stars?   Trevor: Daddy?   Me: Nooooo   Trevor: People???   Bristel: melts into a puddle of giggles.   Trevor (because he can’t resist a good giggle):  Pooooooooop?   Me:   Now you’re just being silly.   Trevy: grins and giggles like a fool   All of us: Went outside to appreciate the moon and learn that Jesus made the stars too :)

Trevy’s April (montessori/tot school) Trays

Trevy attends our local public school’s integrated preschool program four half days a week.  Although next year is K…sniffle sniffle.   Integrated is just a fancy way of saying half the class or less is special needs and half the class or more should be peer models.     I like the program we have wrapped around him.  It’s working and he (mostly) enjoys school.     But we also do a lotta learning here at home too! (homeschool mommy syndrome?)     I’m in love love love with the workbox/tot tray concept.  The OCD in me adores how organized it is!  Plus it looks so cute and learn-y all cozy in the school/therapy room.         Inside each of those little drawers (I call them trays) lives mommy picked toys and activities.   I rotate what’s inside them on a monthly basis.  Sometimes more often.  Depending on how creative and energetic I’m feeling.      ...

you might be a special needs mommy if…

your child shouts "hi" to the mature couple leaving the restaurant in front of you and the other lady turns around and greets him in return. As she does so...you see the realization cross her face that your child clearly has special needs of some kind.  You watch in awe as rather than awkwardly waving a quick goodbye she bends low so she's eye-level with him and really truly talks to him. And clearly in perfect Speech Therapist formation pronounces her name after he articulates his version of "naaaame?". All of which ,of course, causes your eyes to water. Because you are after all...a special needs mommy...     True story.     Which made this mommy’s sappy heart smile and I swore in my heart of hearts that I want to grow up and be beautiful just like the lady at Friendly’s…     …danielle

good-bye our friend, Evan

Evan Bearowitz spent a wonderful stretch with us and was the recipient of gobs of Trevy snuggles!     But alas…     the time has come for our beary friend to journey onward.  Globally spreading epilepsy awareness!     This week he’ll be off to England…     Where will he go next?     Maybe your place?!     After all, today is Trevy’s birthday.  And he told me he want to fill Evan’s passport for his birthday wish!     Request an Evan visit here .     …danielle
