trying to ignore

I'm trying to ignore that appointment in my day timer for next Monday.

The one for Trevy's 48 hour in-patient (boo) EEG.

Because it means we'll be imprisoned in a teensie weensie hospital room until our captors (I totally call them worse behind their backs) decide to release us.

Ugh.

I'm trying to ignore that it's less than a week away now but every time I open up my stinking planner – there it is.

Glaring at me.

I’ve been trying to distract myself.  Playdates and Pinterest only work for so long though.

I’ve been giving myself zero wiggle room for rescheduling.  Hence, his “peacock” this week.  I’m too much of a tight wad to pay for a haircut only to cancel the point of the haircut.

I’ve been telling myself that we’re lucky.  Count your blessings and stuff.  Lucky that Grams and PopPop can keep the big kids for us.  Because the only thing worse than being stuck in a hospital room for two days is being stuck in a hospital room for two days with THREE bored and crabby kids!  I’ve been convincing myself that we’re lucky he (pretty much) only needs one EEG a year now.  I remember the days when we were lucky to make it six months without an admission.  Lucky that I haven’t seen any more clusters involving more than his face.  Lucky this – lucky that.  Blah blah blah.

The fact is…it stinks.

Stinks.

Stinks.

Stinks.

No matter how much I try to ignore or pep talk myself.

It’s just another reminder that even though Trevy has come such a long, wonderful way…

we will always be the family that knows the nooks and crannies and nuisances of the children’s hospital.  Multiple children’s hospitals, actually.

I don’t want to be that family.

Even if I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m flakey like that.  Always emotionally/spiritually at war with loving what is and yet wishing it different.

All the while trying to ignore that appointment next week until it’s over and done.

Lol. I feel you exactly. Last December we were stuck in that hospital for not two or three but five bloody days and the Dr still wouldn't release us! I had to sign a form to let us go against his wishes. I was crabby, exhausted, drained and dirty! Tuti was so agitated to have the nodes on for 72 hrs! It was horrible. I'm sure you will be fine. Look at it this, it's a day in the long life of Danielle and Trevy :) Actually two days... Two days and you will be back home again...

Good Lord...72 hours and I'da been ready to dig the Dr's eyes out of his sockets! I think we should hook all of their children up for 72 hours and see how they handle it! Ugh.

"a day in the long life of Danielle and Trevy"...LOL. Cute.

You and some someone elses will be on the minds of many more than you know next week. Thank goodness its only two days. There must be some comfort when it is over, some questions are answered, and you don't have to do it again in the near future.

Normally, time passing too quickly is a bad thing. But for you and the Trevs, I hope Monday and Tuesday fly by like...like..a...oh, nevermind.

It's so true. Necessary evil. I will survive. I won't be happy about it...in fact, the crankies have already started...but hopefully the report will cheer me up!

Thinking of you for tomorrow...two big hugs!

No, I don’t know him personally

I’ve had several emails today asking if I know Mike W. of Marissa’s Bunny personally.    Trevy’s blog was linked on her site.  Although it’s not now.     I’ve posted here and there at his request.  Because…well…we’re a community.  Us IS families.  And Marissa is wicked cute.  Her daddy has a way with words.  Also who wouldn’t want the world to know about an iPad give-away?    But aside from that…I know about as much as you do.    We’ve never met in person.    Our only communication has been cyber.    I’m a ginormous sap and as such would love to believe that all is right.  That the sweet, beautiful families who were promised iPads will be getting them tonight.  Tomorrow at the latest.  That no one has been lied to.  That the personal thank you for your generosity email I sent him on behalf of other IS families I’ve grown to love and was thrilled to learn w...

I sure hope...

they grow back curly! Saw the "unknown" flashing on the face of my cell phone and knew who it was. Who it had to be. Dr. Fellow. My eyes met Grams' and I nodded. Grams has a pool, see. For super hot days like today. We're also having a septic installed. Which meant no water or facilities at my place. But those weren't really the reasons I was there. Close to mom. The purple ringing thing in my hand was. Only I wasn't prepared for it to be ringing SO darn soon. Shortly after lunch instead of dinner! I swallowed. Took a deep breath. And clicked connect. Dr. Fellow has a very nice phone tone. Clear. Hint of compassion. If only a stitch of humor were added...it'd be heavenly. But there was no humor. Just business. He's very direct. I'm learning that about him. Which explains his short hello. Followed by immediately pushing into the news. Being that it was a unanimous consensus. The entire surgical committee feels Trevor is a good candidate. And then p...

it ain't sexy livin' on an island...

Especially when you have to cross bridges to get ANYWHERE. Very LARGE bridges. The crests of which I inevitably get stuck at. Speaking of...why is it that at the tippity tops of our bridges...the railings always open up? To reveal an eagle's eye view of the white capped depths below? I HATE that. And sure enough...in route to Dr. Pedi yesterday...they must have seen me coming cause traffic ground to a halt at the top of the Mt. Hope Bridge. Where I felt less than Hope-ish. My palms gushing my nerves onto the steering wheel for a good 15 (felt like forever) minutes. Not just things medical bring out my cowardly lion. Heights do too! Anyway... Grabbed an iced coffee and chocolate cream filled to settle my nerves on the way. And we arrived on time...in one piece. Of course. Dr. Sick-Visit-Pedi breezed in chart in hand. Glanced down. Then at Trevy. Then said... "He has a history of Infantile Spasms?" Surprise and speculation in her voice. We get that a lot. It...
