New England Spring

Spring and I are fighting. I've had it up to my muffed ears with this come & go thing! One day it's sweatshirt weather. The next snowsuit. And it's tricky too. Cause you can wake up to a bright glow of sunshine that warms even your bones...only to go outside and feel the bitter cold. Spring in New England. Like Saturday for instance. The sun was shining. The sky was gleaming blue. So we buckled up & headed to the park for a nice romp at the playground. Woulda been nice but for the whipping wind & frost bite on our noses! So I put out a vote. Show of hands for hot cocoa & munchkins at Dunkin? Everybody was in favor except for Toby... Who would have preferred bunking on the swing longingly watching the "big boys" playing ball. He's such a dreamer (that was mommy donated)...cause he really thought he stood a chance of being asked to play. But instead of crushing his little dreams...I simply informed him that he lost the vote & someday when ...
I feel a big weight lifted. I've noticed for a long time now the way your little legs get all tangled together. Took you forever to crawl. To the point that I was really worried. And then one day...you just did . After that it was look out world! The pulling up followed shortly...with clumsy cruising nipping on it's heels. But walking? Well...there's that pesky leg tangle again. And you do this really funny sideways thing with your footsies too. I was browsing the various Stride Rite options this week. But honestly, even my untrained eye noticed that it could be more of a problem than even fifty dollar high top shoes could fix. So at our monthly EI appointment this week I mentioned it to our OT. Now ...this is the same OT that had to be convinced you really do qualify for EI services. She even had to re-write her original eval which had you denied assistance! Soooooo ...needless to say my mental place wasn't great. I have just enough spicy Italian blood pumping th...

the battle of the B-6

On the advice of a friend/fellow epilepsy mommy, I asked Dr. Neuro if we could just give you an injection of B-6 before your next EEG in a coupla weeks. Sure, no problem. I was thrilled because I haven't had success finding a compounding pharmacy. Nor have I been able to hide the yucky flavor in food. And since you've just recently started eating solids again...I just worry that you'll start rejecting food again. Last week when Dr. Neuro called to check on you I brought it up again...just to remind her because she's got a lot on her plate and can be absent-minded sometimes. It's a flaw. But, frankly, I'd rather have absent-minded than un-involved. She is VERY involved. Anyway... Turns out the pre-EEG B-6 is a no go. All this time I was thinking another thigh mark (the ghosts of ACTH are still dark spots on your chunky monkey legs). Never crossed my mind that it would have to administered via I.V.! Duh! Sheesh...sometimes I feel like I know way too much...and oth...

the big number 7

Sometimes I think to myself there is NO WAY I have 3 kids! And certainly not one that can read chapter books! ---- And then I look at him. So tall. So strong. So happy. So toothless. So smart. So athletic. So boy. So SEVEN ! ---- And it takes my breath away! ---- Happy 7th Birthday Tobin! ***btw you know your kid is growing up when they want to do their birthday dinner at Texas Roadhouse! It's all about the peanuts of course...and that Chuckee Cheese is right around the corner. Maybe he's not so grown up after all? :O)***

kissy face

I know it wasn't my imagination! Positive! Two times I asked you for a kiss yesterday AND two times I got it! I KNOW you heard my words & understood their meaning! It was a beautiful thing! But of course, I've second guessed myself ever since. So this morning while we were playing I had the idea to give you a little bitty test. So I held up a little puppy and told you to give the doggie a kiss... ...AND... YOU DID! Twice again! Soooooo daddy grabbed the camera to catch it on video ( so all our family far away can celebrate too ) but you were being a little booger! And this little whisper kiss is all we could catch! I guess we'll leave the movie star action to your sister!
--- Bristel did great at her first visit with the dentist. Of course, sitting the princess chair...being served stickers...and magazines didn't hurt! She really just had her teeth counted anyway. No biggie. First real check up isn't until September. --- --- Toby is another story... --- so that face (above pic) shoulda served as my que. Somehow I missed the terror and was sincerely shocked when Toby literally grabbed the dentist's hands while they were snooping inside his mouth - complete with very sharp tools! A nurse & myself had to hold his hands down just so the dentist could count his teeth without cutting a hole on the interior cheek flesh... --- We did learn that Tobin has four loose teeth & zero cavities! Yeah! --- Dr. Dentist opted to not traumatize Toby (what with the freak out & four loosies) and post-poned the cleaning until September with Bristel --- --- Normally a shorter than expected doc appointment wouldn't put me in a sour place. B...

the strong silent type

Everybody knows we're watching your speech development for any signs of delay. You're not much of a talker...although you enjoy being talked to. And...that's not to say you don't know how to communicate. For instance, if you want more cheerios banging on whatever makes the most noise ensues. Daddy's favorite are the middle of the night bottle chucking . When you've sucked down enough milk the bottle is bouncing across the opposite wall faster than we can blink an eye! Or like yesterday...when I plopped you in your toy laden high chair. I'm fairly certain the one that almost knocked me upside the head was a form of non-verbal communication! **Seriously, people, this kid has an arm! And I KNOW he was aiming! Although it's hard to get mad when A) he looks SO cute & B) we're just so darn thrilled he's communicating...even if it means a knot on the side of the head!**

you might ask...

Where in the world we got this lovely family picture taken... ---- You'd never guess! ---- Cost a fortune? ---- Not so much... ---- I bet it took months of waiting for that kind of talent though! --- Wrong again... ---- Well? ---- Actually...we desperately needed a family picture. Like two days ago! Sooooo...we buffed...donned presentable clothing...called on the many talents of the one & only Grams. Many many clips (and deletes I might add) we uploaded this. Our family picture! So thank you Grams ...teacher...chef...friend...mother...seamstress...babysitter... AND photographer extrodaniare!

shagala bagala

I LOVE Swahili...and that is my all time fave phrase. Loosely translated it means "craziness or chaos"! And that sums up my life today... First of all...if we had taken two steps forward in the sleep depot - last night was like two months back! And it showed - grumpy grumpy grumpy - all day long! And I think you & your sister were collaborating! Including at music class! Didn't help that it was gloomy either. I am SO over gloomy! Seriously...Spring where are you!?!?!?! Then Bristel and her mystery rash! Dr. Pedi was loathe to rule out chicken pox...but now on day 5 and no crusty scabs (but still new spots popping up) we're convinced we've esacaped that calamity. Still no clue what exactly the rash is though. Grams who was appalled at the thought that it could be flea bites...has now taken up the task of fumigating the kid's room! And the Cinderella gown that your sister lives in... Toby has a rash too. My word...I thought I left that stuff on the oth...
It's been the week of doctors visits (4 actual in-office - plus more than that in phone convos)...and it's only Tuesday! Although Bristel was too cute getting her blood-work done. Of course they didn't hit her vein on the first prick or the numerous under skin prodding ...but Super Girl didn't shed a tear! Just a sweet little "ow" and that was it. We were ALL impressed. After they'd harvested 3 vials full of crimson...we were good to go. I complimented Bristel as I was zipping up her coat. "I'm SO proud of you!" "I know, Mama. But I wasn't very happy !" she replied!

why the sad face?

Another week - another stinkin' ear infection! Ugh! Dr. Pedi says the worst yet. And referred us to an ENT - which astonishingly had an appointment open for tomorrow afternoon! Maybe we'll have tubes in before your 1st birthday?!?! At least then I wouldn't have to worry if you're not responding to your name because you have fluid in your little ears! Although the other reason isn't any better. ---- I have no idea why I have that goofy grin on my face either! You look like death warmed over! ---- Oh...and Bristel has very suspicous looking spots on her tummy. It's been awhile...but I'm thinking chicken pox! Ugh...again! Although I was thinking if she has them...and you get them...then maybe that'll solve at least one of my vax concerns?! Anyway...I'll know shortly since the doctor just called & wants to take a peek. ---- Since the top pic was SO sad...I thought I'd add this one of you looking happy & cute & if on...

Doctor Daze

Today was our follow-up with Dr. Neuro . Somehow afterwards I always feel like I got hit by a bus! Honestly...they should incorporate spa therapy into neuro follow-ups. Where the doctor goes over all the yucky stuff while we're getting Swedish kneaded on a bed of warm pebbles. Or pedi & mani"ed to perfection...french tips please! Heck...I'd even settle for a nice neck massage! I think that would be a much easier way to handle... topics such as... " Trevor's EEG really didn't clean up the way we had hoped...it's quite concerning " ...and... " He's certainly delayed a few months developmentally but Im sure it's nothing to worry about " ...or... " We usually use such-n-such...hmmmm...I'm not sure why we didn't "... And so went our very un-retreat-from-reality-like meeting with your Girlfriend (aka Dr. Neuro) today. She was referencing vitamin B-6 ...which some studies have shown linked to improved EEGs . And since...

spring is in the air...
