randomnings

Not too long ago we were warming the stands at a basketball game starring Tobes.  It happened that Jonathan was sitting on the bleacher above me.  Giving him full access to notice all things on my head. It was with glee.  Glee, I say.  That he practically shouted announced spotting my first... gray !  Long after his duly earned bruises healed my daughter will still solemnly and sadly rub my back and offer me this condolence... I sure wish you didn't get your first gray hair, mommy.  ******************** Dr. Pedi informed Toby that she needed to swab some boogers from his nose for a flu test. I can just pick em' for you He generously offered. ******************* Bristel and Toby were having a Fighting Frenzy sorta day and I'd finally had enough. If you two don't stop it right this minute... it's not gonna be pretty!  I promise you!  Both got real quiet.  Until Bristel finally responded... Well, mooooom....

baseball fever, snow and exploration

Only in New England can you have snow in the forecast and Little League practice in the same week.  Hello?  Spring????  Anyway. Silly me.  I always forget how cold it gets down at the ball fields.  They're so close the water that the wind is moisture saturated and whipping.  Refreshing on hot nights.  Frigid the rest of the year!  Only Jonathan and Toby were going to practice.  That was the plan.  But I knew Jonathan would be working late last night.  And had an early meeting in the morning.  Followed by soccer practice after work the next day.  I was overcome in the moment and decided we'd all bundle up and go to practice together!  And at first it was nice.  Toby looked super cute in his new cleats and baseball gear.  As much as I complain about how long the games are.  And all the practices.  Seeing him in his gear still makes me all goofy in the mommy heart.  Bristel was smi...

Knock Knock. Who's There?

Trevy in his Underwear! chicken legs!  Letting Trevy pick a new pair of undies every time he goes tinkle is a GREAT motivator for him And to think yesterday I was totally ready to throw in the towel... then today he has ZERO accidents... including a trip to Target where he used the big boy potty! He eats up all the praise! concentration

who will you be rockin' Purple for? (link in)

I've wanted to do something festive on Purple Day forever. Or for 3 1/2 years anyway.  Cause sometimes 3 1/2 years can feel like forever.   ::smile:: This year I was going to get a purple streak in my hair.  Turns out finding time for a salon run wasn't gonna happen.  I also meant to use purple text with all my posts for the month of March.  Seeing as how I'm hit n' miss with even remembering to add my Signature...that wasn't ever really gonna happen either.  But this morning I was inspired with a new idea. Maybe even better!  What if I posted pictures of Trevy's seizure fighting friends instead? If you'd like to join me here's what to do: Email the picture of your choice to me (click here to be taken directly to my email) at tanzie213(at)yahoo(dot)com today .  I know it's last minute but the idea literally just hit my brain!  Which means other than me...you're the first to know! In the subject line write: I'm wearing p...

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trevy  made  PEE PEE  on the potty at school!

it's not always IQ

It's funny (not as in haha...more like sad funny) how my mind always goes there. If it appears like Trevy can't figure something out I always blame it on his brain.  I go straight to IQ.  Or lack thereof.    He just doesn't understand... I must think that thought a thousand times a week.  A day, maybe.     I get negative pretty quickly.  It's not healthy.  But I'm being honest .  And that's exactly where I was during last week's PT evaluation wrap up.  The therapist had Trev start out by sitting on a mat.  Legs out front.  Shoes and sock off.  Exposing yummy little hobbit toes.  It's not just the hair that's Frodo Baggins. ::smile:: She was working with his weak side.  The Right.  Blowing bubbles and asking him to pop pop pop them with his toes.  He was SO everywhere but there.  Cognitively...I mean.  He's looking at the lights.  Reaching for other things.  Mostly ...

noises

Noises make Trevy belly laugh.  Especially body noises.  So if you're feeling extra "airy in the derry" ( yes , that's original with me!) when we're hanging out...you'd better hope it's not loud.  Otherwise he'll blow raspberries to mimic the sound and belly laugh til' you're tomato red face gives you away!  ::grin:: Which reminds me. I was so happy he was with Grams when I was errand running last week.  Cause that poor sap who let it rip while I was passing by would have been toast!

backyard therapy: reinventing the (color)wheel

As your friend and encourager in this crazy journey of special needs mommyhood...   I am urging you DO NOT READ HOMESCHOOLING MOMMY BLOGS Trust me on this.  I'm an addict.  I know what's in your best interest. Don't do it.   unless you want to click away feeling like a big, fat, lazy slob of a mom (or dad).  Who spends entirely too much time watching meaningless television.  Eating too many cookies.  Sleeping too many hours.  Googling too many things.  Wasting too much time.  Spending too many days in jammies. Also.  Maybe .  Just maybe .  you might actually stumble on an idea or two that inspires you.  Lights a fire under your creative(ly challenged) bootay. Which is what happened to me when I stumbled onto one blog (don't ask me which though...I couldn't tell ya.  I visit too many.  I'm an addict, remember?) with a color wheel project that was positively Trevy Perfect. All I needed...

mommy (needs) therapy

Holy Moly!  I found this super handy website.  Filled with ideas n' thing-a-mabobs to spruce up the ol' blog.  Now, if I can just get her to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with adding a grab button?    I've pretty much wasted spent all day fiddling with this.  Adjusting that.  Adding this.  Deleting that.  And I feel great!  It's been so much fun.  Therapy for me !  And not to brag or anything.   But it's looking mighty fine if I do say so myself!  And yes ... I'm fishing. ::grin::

name?

One of Trevy's new ABA targets (he's mastered "hi" and "bye") is "name?".  I'm pretty sure he gets it. Cause he's pointing to people everywhere and asking "name?" We spent a full ten minutes this morning snuggled on the couch scrolling through our iPad photo albums.  He gets giddy happy over the Disneys.   He was demanding to know everyone's name or I was asking him for so-n-so's name and he'd tell me.   Di-Dough (Bristel)  Wee-Bee (Toby...who is thrilled he's no longer Wee-Wee for obvious reasons)  Da-Ee (Daddy...a bit of regression there as he was clearly saying Da-Dee for awhile) It was super cute.  Also...I thought it was pretty cool that when it was a thing and not a person he would switch it up and ask "issss" (this).

enjoying a hint of Spring (a picture marathon)

When you live in New England  anything above 32 degrees  feels like Spring Trevy is really into cars right now too!  He'll drive them around for 5 minutes or so... Bri is such a wonderful "helper" Bibi's house-warming gift is getting lotsa use this Spring! Work those muscles, Trevy! My newest fave photo! She's gonna be such a heart breaker!  Beautiful AND sweeet! Bristel trying to teach Trevy how to look for pictures in the clouds Not really sure what they're doing here...but they look cute anyway Teaching Trevy some exercises.  He wasn't really into it.

backyard therapy: abc play(dough)

Trevy is all about his ABCs.  Thank you very much, Miss. ABA !    He's starting to notice letters in random places.  Blog titles for example.  Signs on walls.  Even itty bitty letters in books.  He has a few faves.  A - T - C - S - O  He doesn't always know the proper name for each letter.  But it seems when he doesn't know the proper name - he knows the sound instead. Take the letter C.  He doesn't say C...instead he'll make a perfect "kuh" sound.  Which is funny cause he calls our friend ,Kerrie, Peh-Peh?   Oh well.    And anyway... I mounted a magnetic white board in the therapy/school room.  ( Kenly , if you could think up a clever mixture of the two and create a new name for that room I would be over the moon)     He's had a blast manipulating magnetic letters with his sister (who is all about spelling 3 letter words).   Editors Note: this is much easier now that he's ...
